National Instruments/Presco Approach to Product Development

Presco Engineering is a great fit to help transition your NI platform developments to more cost efficient, customized hardware/firmware solutions, at any point in the product development cycle.

Get the benefits of both an experienced LabView team as well as decades of high-performance electronics engineering know-how.

Reduce risk and shorten time to market

Sometimes you need an extra, qualified team player to move your project along. Presco has certified LabVIEW developers who are accustomed to coming up to speed quickly, and providing software which is well designed and documented. We won’t leave you with a maintenance nightmare!

Refinement of code for deployment

LabVIEW can provide extremely short development times for proving concepts and introducing products. However, LabVIEW programs are often less efficient than code written in a more traditional language such as C or C++. LabVIEW requires a run time engine to be installed on each system. As systems go into larger production volumes, it often makes financial and technical sense to port the application software to another programming language. Presco can help with this.

Portability assessments of the “proof of principle” prototype

Porting the algorithm into a new platform can be a challenge (and risky). Presco reviews and resolves gate array logic and high speed protocol challenges upfront. For other clients, we can evaluate current status and provide documentation to evaluate risk. Presco has experience with National Instruments’ FPGA support and can help either develop code for that environment or to port that code to a native FPGA environment to improve throughput or to move to a lower cost card.

Creating a well-architected test executive framework

Presco can help you devise a test executive framework that consists of well-organized, partitioned components and test code. When debugging and validating test code, you can use these components to quickly isolate problems. Once a modification is applied, smaller portions of the application code can be executed independently without running the entire application, facilitating coding/debugging development cycles.

Tailoring Tailoring for FDA regulations

NI can take you to a functional prototype; however, when you are ready to start commercial development, Presco can tailor the software and hardware for FDA submittals. Also, provide the necessary documentation including end-user requirements, traceability, etc.
