“Science can amuse and fascinate us all, but it is engineering that changes the world.”
—Isaac Asimov, American writer, professor of biochemistry
Phil Black - President
Since founding Presco 40 years ago, Phil has acted as system architect for countless product design cycles serving clients in many different industries.
He has worked in optical spectroscopy, acoustic recognition, medical instrumentation, neural nets, heads-up displays, non-destructive testing, machine tool controls, and drop-on-demand printing. He has been instrumental in helping Presco’s clients manufacture and commercialize these products.
Phil holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Yale Engineering.
Terry Sauer - VP (engineering)
Terry Sauer has spent his 30+ year career developing analytical instrumentation. Working at a range of companies including IBM, Spectra-Tech, Mettler-Toledo, SensIR Technologies, and Smiths Detection, Terry has experience in software development, systems design, project management, and process development. He has worked on optical, mass and ion mobility spectrometers, gas and liquid chromatographs and in industries from pharmaceuticals to homeland security.
Terry has a BA in Physics with a concentration in Computer Science from Carleton College.
Ruth Schultz - Director of Operations
Ruth has 9 years of experience in the technology sector. Starting as a test and assembly technician in college, she is now the Director of Operations for Presco’s engineering team and is involved in marketing and sales.
With experience in Operations, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Marketing, Product Development and Project Management, Ruth brings a unique mixture of skills to the table. Presco often calls her the “firefighter”, taking on tough challenges to ensure quality and efficiency.
Ruth holds a BS degree in Business Management from Albertus Magnus College.
Jeff Gates - VP (Sales and Marketing)
Jeff has over 25 years experience of identifying and securing customers within emerging technology sectors. A tireless networker, Jeff attends a wide variety of conferences and gatherings where artists, scientists, technologists, designers, engineers and business people congregate.
With a career that began within the Industrial Design/Human Factors/Usability department at Xerox Corporation, he brings a deep understanding of the emotional and design drivers that optimize the human/machine interface and lead to a positive brand experience. Commitment to exceeding customer expectations is his mantra.
Jeff holds a Bachelors of Industrial Design from Syracuse University.
Dan Kohler - VP (software Engineering)
Dan’s passion for software development started at an early age, writing programs in BASIC on the family computer. Always looking for a challenge, in high school he developed a graphical role-playing game from scratch using a TI-85 graphing calculator, just to see if it could be done.
Since joining Presco in 2005, Dan has applied his broad knowledge of software design, signal processing, and electronics to many projects covering a range of disciplines including real-time embedded systems, audio processing, computer vision, network communications, instrument control, driver development, and UI design.
Dan holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
JAmES Moore - Chief Scientist
Our chief scientist, James Moore, brings to Presco over 30 years of experience in applied physics, industrial machine tool controls, laser drilling & welding, sensors, actuators, and electronic circuit design.
Mr. Moore graduated from Yale university with a Physics degree and still continues to make extensive use of the fundamental principles of physics to solve problems ranging from sensor design to high-speed digital clock distribution.
Mr. Moore has design experience in image processing architectures, medical instrumentation, communications, nondestructive testing, and digital signal processing. He has used all of the major classes of analog and digital integrated circuits, implementing systems ranging from the sub-Hz range to the near giga-Hz.
Sreeram Dhurjaty - Senior Fellow
Ram has more than 30 years of experience in development and commercialization of medical electronics. Applications include Fetal Monitors, Medical Ultrasound, CT Scanners, Digital and Computed Radiography.
Expert in low-noise Analog Electronics for medical devices. Expert on high-density power supplies and magnetics for medical and other applications.
Ram holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering; MS, Engineering and Applied Science, Yale University.
